Accessibility statement

We want everybody who is revising to be able to use this site. You should be able to:

• zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen, and read every page on a phone
• get round the whole site with just a keyboard, starting with the “Skip to content” link
• use a screen reader: pages have landmarks, headings in order, a breadcrumb trail and labelled controls
• switch to a dark theme, or have the site follow your device's setting
• turn off animation: the site honours your device's “reduce motion” setting
• use the site with no account and no cookies you have to accept
• print any lesson, or several at once as a revision pack

How accessible this site is

We know some parts of it are not fully accessible yet:

• The downloadable PowerPoint and Word files are generated from each lesson. Some pictures in them have no text description, and slide reading order and table headings may not be marked up for a screen reader. The same notes are on the lesson page itself, which is the accessible version.
• Some PDFs that were uploaded rather than generated are not tagged for screen readers.
• Some pictures in older lessons have no useful text description.
• Mind maps, timelines and charts show their information visually. The points in them are usually in the lesson text as well, but not always.
• Changing only your browser's default text size does not make all of the body text bigger; zooming the page does.

Asking for another format, or reporting a problem

If you need something on this site in a different format — a lesson as plain text, large print, or a file that works with your screen reader — or you find a problem not listed above, tell us:

• use the chat button in the corner of most pages
• use “Something here looks wrong?” at the foot of any lesson

We aim to reply within five working days, and to fix what we can straight away.

Enforcement procedure

OpenRevise is run independently and is not a public sector body, so the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not strictly apply to it. We follow the same standard anyway, and publish this statement in the same form. If you are not happy with how we respond to a complaint, the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) can advise you.

Technical information about this site's accessibility

We are committed to making OpenRevise accessible. The standard we work to is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA.

Compliance status

This site is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA, because of the problems listed above: text alternatives (1.1.1), information and relationships in the downloadable files (1.3.1) and resizing text (1.4.4).

What we are doing about it

The tool lessons are written in warns whenever a picture has no text description, so new lessons have them; carrying those descriptions into the generated files is next. Until then, the lesson page is the accessible version of everything in a download.

This statement was prepared on 26 September 2026 and last reviewed on 26 September 2026. It is based on our own testing of the site with a keyboard, a screen reader, browser zoom and the device settings for dark mode and reduced motion.
