What is standard form?
A way of writing a number as \(A \times 10^n\), with \(A\) at least 1 and less than 10.

Which numbers have a positive power of 10?
Numbers of 10 or more.

Which numbers have a negative power of 10?
Numbers between 0 and 1.

What is 45 000 in standard form?
\(4.5 \times 10^4\).

What is 0.0032 in standard form?
\(3.2 \times 10^{-3}\).

Is \(45 \times 10^3\) in standard form?
No, because 45 is not between 1 and 10.

How do you write \(45 \times 10^3\) in standard form?
\(4.5 \times 10^4\).

\(\dfrac{1}{100} = 0.01\).
